Charles Krug Winery 2018
St. Helena, CA
I froze my ass off but it was worth it when my painting of Charles Krug’s Carriage House sold to a collector before it was even finished! I was honored to be commissioned by the Mondavi Family to participate in the Napa Arts in April annual event. When they asked me to paint their historic Carriage House of their property I hoped I could do it justice. There are numerous high profile galas held at this venue and it is Napa Valley’s oldest and most prestigious landmark, which dates back 75 years. It was exciting to paint in the barrel room at Charles Krug Winery, St. Helena, CA. as well as be the winery’s first Artist in Residence from 2018 through 2019. My experience was extremely fulfilling! During this time my paintings were exhibited throughout the winery and sold to collectors around the country. I’m proud to know Peter Mondavi is a collector of one of my woodwork paintings and is displayed in his office on the Charles Krug property.

POP UP

When I first got to California I didn’t know a soul. I sat at a coffee shop alone and a man asked me if he could sit down. He was working on a charity event and I offered to donate a painting to Congressman Mike Thompson’s fundraising event at Hall Winery in St. Helena. The woman who was the chair of the auction became a best friend and collector of my work. This woodwork piece is an oil painting and is displayed in her Lake Tahoe, NV retreat.

Within weeks of arriving in Calistoga, CA I was offered an amazing space to paint… however it was in the home of a complete stranger. He told me about Sea Ranch. I would have the place to myself but what I didn’t know was he would become my biggest collector and Sea Ranch would be my biggest inspiration. 10 acres of heaven along the Northern Sonoma Coast is where I painted my Shizen Series. I became accustomed to the sound of the ocean, the cold air and at times the luminous fog.
